Mathematical Development

A rich range of resources stimulate children to count, sort and measure, to experiment with number, shape and pattern.

With adult support children have the opportunity to use mathematical language and to use developing mathematical ideas and methods to solve practical problems.

Children are encouraged to use and become familiar with numerals and to talk about and recognise simple geometric shapes, they are helped to understand positional vocabulary and they begin to discover mathematical concepts through songs and games and imaginary play. These activities ensure that children can begin to develop confidence in themselves as mathematicians.
